]]> Anyone that has a dog and lives within walking distance to Corona Del Mar’s coastline, surely knows what a great place this is to walk. Known to many as a “walkers community” Corona Del Mar is ripe with dog walking possibilites. If you want to walk your pet close to the beach head over to Corona Del Mar’s Ocean Blvd. You’ll find a winding sidewalk there, paralleling the coast, that will take you and you pooch from “Little Corona”, north past “Big Corona” (Corona Del Mar’s own state beach). This is Corona Del Mar dog walking at its best! A casual walk through this area and you’re sure to see fellow dog owners enjoying early morning and late night strolls here. If your goal is to put on some real mileage, you and fido will have to zig zag your way through any of CDM’s aptly named flower streets (Poppy, Poinsettia, Orchid, Narcissus, etc…). Like Balboa Island dog walking you will find beautifully landscaped homes, narrow treelined streets, and another affluent Newport Beach neighborhood that exudes otherworldly peacefulness.

Corona Del Mar Dog Walking Park?

There are a few parks (not “technically” dog parks) within Corona Del Mar where dog owners often congregate, the largest of which is located to the west of the Oasis Senior Center off the corner of Marguerite and 5th street. It’s not uncommon to see unleashed dogs, both big and small, running around here but beware. The city of Newport Beach does have strict regulations in place and dog owners are required to have their dogs leashed at all times. So whether you’re at this park or walking to or from any park in Newport Beach, please remember to always use that leash. If they spot you, you could be subject to a fine.

]]> What a wonderful thing it is to walk a dog on Balboa Island (map). Streets lined with beautifully landscaped cottages make this part of Newport Beach seem otherworldly; more-so on an especially warm summer day. Leash up your dog and head to North Bay Front, South Bay Front or East Bay Front. You’ll find a great sidewalk there that runs along the perimeter of the island,  just choose a direction and start walking. Casual canine early morning, mid-day, or late night strolls don’t get any better than this and you and your pooch are sure to pass more than one fellow dog owner. If your pup tends to shy away from or doesn’t play well with other dogs, play it safe, take the road less travelled and stick to the inside alley which runs along the inside perimeter of the island. Although Newport Beach law (7.04.030) prohibits dogs on any harbor/bay front beaches from 9AM to 5PM (year-round) walking on this stretch of sidewalk is allowed. A word of caution: Balboa Island is notoriously strict regarding dog waste. Absent of anything resembling a dog park your best bet is to bring along a few dog waste bags and keep a close eye on where fido chooses to do his business. In fact, Newport Beach dog walking law requires that you keep dog waste bags with you at all times and a hefty $500 fine can be issued to dog walkers & pet owners that do not clean up after their animal. Free doggie walk bags are provided to you at any of the various bag dispensers on the Island.
